  • Tig Filler Woes

WHY DOES NOONE CARRY ANYTHING BUT 4043 TIG FILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do all these shops think that that's the "fix all" filler choice for every single alloy out there? Does noone demand a better choice so they can do the job CORRECTLY???? Specifically what I'm trying to find is 3/32 1100, and can't even find it on line!!!! Is this a conspiracy against those of us who actually want to use some of our hard earned knowledge for the good of our products and customers????

PLEASE, if you know where to get fillers such as 5356, 5556, 1100, etc., do us all a favor and let us know!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you post soon w/ good info, you may be awarded for thwarting a murder or two!!

Hey Cope, saw ya online and figured you'd have something for me! Unfortunately, no good. They don't even carry ER70S-2!!!!! they have 70S-6, ER 308L, and 4043 & 5356. THAT'S IT!!! Where's all the "specialty" filler???? (not that 70s-2 or -7 is specialty!!!!) Also, good luck finding 4130N filler too. Man this is frustrating!!

Matt, sorry, I saw 5356 and read 5556. I would try these guys:

http://www.mitrowskiwelding.com/ You will have to call them. They are a bricks and mortar store in South Houston.

                  matt,
If you could be more specific as to what you define 'specialty' to be, then maybe we could be of more help. Do you need aluminum, alloy steel, nickel, titanium,
                  inconel,.....?????

                  Try https://www.stagesmith.com/Metal-lin...#Filler_metals

If you can't find it there, then you may not be selecting your filler metal correctly.
Not everyone is going to have their websites created with you in mind--that is you may actually have to make a phone call for pricing.

Try search engines such as goodle, they can be very powerful.

I've never tried goodle, but google is the only search engine I use.

Thanks guys, found what I was looking for, waiting on a quote. Any of you ever welded w/ 1100 filler? I'm using 3003 w/ that filler and man, what a pretty weld it makes!! If you ever have a chance to try it, do it!!

Airgas has just about any kind of filler rod you could want except the really high priced stuff on their web site. They also have the prices and minimum order quantities.

Some of us "backwards" welders buy stick rod by the ton, and make a decent living burning it up. Stick is still unbeatable in several different sets of circumstances, including high pressure pipelines and field welded process piping. Stores will stock what sells, you and I have the problem of wanting or needing an item that's not in widespread demand.
Ram Welding Supply has a web site and carries 5356 in several sizes, I've bought from them and recieved excellent service.

I buy my tig wire supplies through Praxair, which buys from either weldmold or eureka welding rod supplies. Problem is they usually need you to buy 10 lbs. which I do.
                              They do have 5356 * 4043 alum.
