    What type of machine design do you do? I can't imagine trying to do any serious design on LT. It's so hard for people to visualize your ideas when 3D you can show it to the easier.

    I went to school for tool & die design. I'm now doing PLC programming for conveyor systems. I enjoy programming and the traveling (wish I did a little less though) but miss the whole conceptual/design thing. I REALLY want to start my own business doing both but can't secure that much $$$. My brother does mchine design in MD and is a tool & die maker too, got a couple budies who do tool & die work also, so I can cover most bases but $$$. Some day it will happen if it meant to I guess.

    Thanks ryanevans, looks like a it would work. They way I am going is real simular except I am using a y connector with valves on each incoming line.

    Hi Ryan, I went to the local (airgas) supply store last night to pick up a few things (00 cutting tip, tapered nozzle and tip for the MM251, .045 rollers, liner). While I was there I bought a second flow gauge so I have a guage on each tank now. I also ordered anti back flow valves and a y valve and a hose. With this setup I should be able to have both tanks hooked up at the same time and with the anti back flow valves I shouldn' t have to be concerened with mixing the two gases now. Hopefully everything will be in by next Wednesday and I can hook it all up. I will let everyone know how it works out once I try it.

    You were wondering how to do a valve assembly for your tanks. I think I would get some black pipe nipples, tee's, ball valves and check valves(to be safe) and just make a manifold type setup. The check valve is going to be the hardest thing to find, maybe McMaster-Carr, Grainger (oouuchh, $$), Fastenal, etc carries them. Possibly Lowe's, HD, etc will carry them too.

    I drew up a sketch in AutoCAD but they got me the Lite version on my new laptop so I can't export to any acceptable format to attach to this reply. If you want my drawing, I can send it to you in WMF and you can open it through Internet Explorer..

    I am going to get another regulator and find a 3 way valve someplace that I can plum in and switch between the tanks with the valve. One thing I am concerned with is back feeding into the other tank somehow. Anyone have a suggestion of what kind of valve I should use to do this?

    I got busy this evening trying to dial in the cutting torch to cut up the 1/8 inch material for the bucket (for the front scoop I am building). Hopefully the 00 tip I ordered will be here tomorrow and I will be a little happier with the cutting results. I never have been real good with the torch. I always seem to loose the cut and then end up with a glob of metal that falls and leaves a bumpy edge.


    Any way I didn't do anything with the welder this eve. I will probably try some of the settings that have been suggested here tomorrow. Sorry about the long post guys.....I seem to be rambling this eve.....

    I would keep the bottle of C25 around for short arcing too. 85/15 would only be for short arcing thin gauge steel and spray. However, I ve been using 98/2 for 15 years now to spray arc steel and stainless steel, and have never had a weld fail.

    The 00 tip for your torch will work a lot better then a 0 tip on 1/8". The one problem most people have with a cutting torch is that they set there gas pressures way to high. To cut 1/8" you shouldn t need more than settings of about 2 to 3 on the acetylene and 10 to 15 on the oxygen.

    Also Bob I suggest punch marking your layout lines before you cut the parts out. This way you will have a definate reference point to sand/grind back to so that you end up with accurate parts.
