  • Plasma cutter starting problems??

Bought a Miller Spectrum 625 and was working great. Now I have a terrible time starting a cut. Pilot lights, but does not seem to jump to material. Been just cutting carbon steel, light gage. Cleaned everything and made sure of a good ground. It may be something simple, as never had any other experiance with plasma. Any help would be great. Thanks

That does sound like an open ground...maybe broken ground wire or loose connection?

Hey, did you try to replace the tip, and the electrode inside of the cup, mine can sometimes get fouled and will do the same thing.

Thats why I buy complete replacement kits, if you have a spare set give it a try.

Boys are doing good, except they passed the bug onto me and the wife. As for the 625, changed tips and works fine. How long should you get out of them?

Depends on the materails, and the ammount of time you cut with the machine. Also the air quality has a lot to do with life span.

Yes, went and checked my filter/dryer set and they were in bypass. Looks like that was the problem. Thanks for the help.
