  • Hind Sight is 20/20!!!

Not long ago I posted a question titled "Lack of certs" and now..Looking back...I should have titled it "Lack of sense".
What rapture! What joy! I got a job today as a mig weldor.
Its not a bad job and the pay isnt bad and its Temp to full time.
I found out at the unemployment office that There is a local pipe fitters union that will be taking applications (Should be..) In May of this year for a "Pipe fitters apprentiship program".
I believe that I will be accepted into the program.
However..While I was attending "Missouri Welding Institute"
I was taking the "Structural fitting program" But in the classroom portion The instructor was taking us through "Piping takeoffs".
At the time my thoughts were..."Why do I want to listen to this boring mess..When I will not be a pipe welder". Well..Hind sight is 20/20. I am wishing now that I would have paid more attention. If I would have done so..I would know how to do a pipe takeoff and I would know how to do "Rolling offsets".
And I paid for the structural course and yet..I was getting the pipe welding theory for free!!!
Moral of the story...If your planning on attending a welding school..GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH! I was a fool for not paying attention to the pipe takeoffs and rolling offsets Portion of the classroom. Yes..It was boring as H**L but if I had paid attention
I would be prepaird for this apprentiship program. I would have a jump on some people.

Good Luck in the apprenticeship. Getting into a union whether it be pipefitters, ironworkers, millwrights, etc. is a very profitable decision both professionally and financially. You will certainly have several opportunities to attend further training (and most times free) along with a "book" that will take you anywhere you want to go in the U.S. to work. When retirement comes around, you will be especially happy with the choice to go Union. I work with a pipefitter that is retiring in June, and he is going to GROSS over $4000 a month in pension. Anyway, GOOD LUCK, Brother, make your local proud.
Buy Union, Buy American, the job you save may be your own.
