  • Lincoln LN-25 Wire Feeder Spray Transfer?

    Dan, Scot V & Mike

I have noticed you have good results with spray transfer welding. I was wondering if you ever used an Lincoln LN-25 wire feeder to perform this process? I just returned to producing good welds with the unit with the help of Scot V & Mike. Any help from anyone who might be able to advise would be appreciated.

Rangerod,I haven't used the LN25,but the Miller, and Esab voltage sensing style feeders.Every time I tried to buy a LN25 on ebay they climb to close to the price of a new one.The Ln25 will do everything but pulse spray If used as a voltage sensing feeder. They have a control cable option that pulls the power off that instead of the welding arc. Then you could even pulse spray with at.My Lincoln LN9 GMA had alot of the same parts in it,but is not a voltage sensing feeder.

Rangerod, that feeder will spray-arc all day long.Look what it's rated it.It can run some huge wire, and they are not using the short-arc mode.As long as you have the right gas,and enough voltage for the size of wire you got a spraying fool.Make sure your gun is big enough. Also some reflective type cover on your off hand is something you should look into.

The Ln25 feeder is the top dog in voltage sensing feeders, although Miller,Esab makes great ones also.My Esab is a great four roll feeder, but I would just as soon have the proven 2 roll LN-25.Quality unit for sure.

      LN-25 Spray Arc

Very pleased to hear that. I am definately going to look into the control cable you are refering to. I'll see if I can look it up or go talk to the local Air Gas dealer. If I understand this correctly the pulse spray will allow me to control the amount of penetration by pausing the amperage flow Like I said I'll try to research the optional cable Thanks

Rangerod, you still need a power supply that will pulse,Unless you have that don't bother with the conversion to the control cable package. It would be useful if you had another power supply at home, then you could use one feeder for both.Which you still can,but not with pulse.Thats about the only real advantage I can see,but there could be others.I do know that just for a 10 foot cable for LN9 was about 90.00 dollars at a discount. No conversion package with it.It would be nice to know what other things the control package does for the LN25.Find out,and let me know, because who knows maybe one would make it though ebay without selling for a arm,and a leg.

Thats right the Ranger 8 does not have the pulse option on it. I did not know it was the power supply that pulsed. I am in the market for Syncrowave 300 or Lincoln 300 power supply at this timeand I am glad that you made me aware that I will need the pulse feature on it to get that feature out of the LN-25 Appreciate it

RR, we do love our LN-25's here. We run them off of gas drives and inverters. You can spray arc with them no problem. We run alot of flux core through them in the spray mode.

I know what an inverter is but do you mean a gas driven power supply

BTW thanks for all the useful info

Correct Scott, I do mean the Ranger 8. Ours are a little bigger but the Ranger 8 will do it.

You definately are right about the price of the LN-25 on Ebay. I kept trying to get one on Ebay for months & I finally gave up on it. I was suprised that people out there were willing to pay pretty close to new price so I bit the bullet & bought it new Good luck on your search for one

Rangerod,I am done looking for voltage sensing feeders for now.The demo four roll Esab mobilemaster IV that I got for $690.00 with a benard gun is really nice in it's own right. It has a contactor built in,and auto cc/cv sensing that is really kind of cool.If I had to pay list price,I would of bought a LN25 for sure.Lets just say the LN25 is king of the hill in my mind.Although the other companys make great feeders also.

Thats My next one on the list is TIG capability. I don't have it yet so I am really researching this one

Wow,, you guys are going to give me a headache. I didnt think you actually had to know anything about this stuff,,, I figure you just put the wire in the machine, plug it in and go. What have I been missing all these years? Maybe I should read the book someone gave me. On gas driven machines I thought you used those pointy things one at a time. I suggested one time they ought to try that rolled up welding rod for huge collum splices and you woulda thunk I just run over their favorite bird dog. One of them darn machines even had sumpthin like CC/CV wrote on the front of it too. After reading these posts I have come to the conclusion that I really dont know much about it and hurts my brain when I try to read all those charts. Inductance, slope and this talk of voltage and stuff,, oh heck,,, but,,, I can run 7018 vertical with a mirror,,, ha

The problem is that I can "run 7018 vertical with a mirror" in addition to what we were discussing

MY 2 CENTS WORTH..............I THINK MOST FEEDERS CC/CV IN THE INDUSTRY ARE RELIABLE AND WILL SERVE ADEQUATELY IN ALMOST ALL APPLICATIONS............ BUT LIKE ALL FEEDERS THEY ALL HAVE A PLACE IN THE INDUSTRY.............. BE IT IN A MANHOLD OR IN A NECULAR REACTOR..............SOME DO SOMETHING BETTER THAN OTHERS..............SCOTT HOW IS THE AUTO CC/CV HOLDING UP HAVE YOU SWITCHED IT BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN CONSTANT CURRENT AND CONSTANT VOLTAGE YET........... OR IS IT MAINLY CONSTANT CURRENT.................................ROCK[email protected]
