  • Welding upside down

I have a ESAB 250, .035, 75/25 gas mix and have been welding on vehicle frames lately. I am having trouble welding upside down, the welds look kinda of "burgered" up and it sounds like the welding is "bogging" down and choking instead of the sizzling bacon sound, it takes a few passes to insure good penetration.
Any tips for welding upside down?

Arc force is what makes molten metal defy gravity. Up your voltage to flatten bead. Maybe slow your wire speed.

Billy Clyde, welcome aboard.I think it's real tough thing to do myself.Just play with the wire feed to get it the best you can.

On a different subject, have you tried any 90/10 ar/co2 gas with your setup?I owned that machine for years. That thing is my favorite welder for mild steel out there. All sorts of voltage. It sprays at half throttle. It kind of has a agressive type arc to the machine when turned up a little. It welds thin material great with .023 wire.Esab has updated some things on that welder to make it even better.New four wheel drive setup, solid state contactor, double bottle rack, new case the same as the 260 multimaster, and I think meters, but not real sure on that.Very nice setup.I just thought you would like to know that you are not alone here with your Esab.
