I have heard...not tried...that painting the gavlanized part with white vinegar would neutralize the fumes. Anybody else heard that??

I've had to weld Galv. with 7018 before also,if possible grind the area to be welded first and then proceed, wear a mask even when grinding,i have worked with tons of Galv and have gotten sick quicker from grinding it than from welding it!What is IT?you don't want to know!wear a mask, get a fan and blow it the hexx away from ya!Good luck

I use a NIOSH95 filter mask when welding galvanized steel even when welding in a breeze. In a prooperly equiped shop they would have exhaust hose close to weld removing hazardous fumes. Airline mask is better than filter mask.

When we were doing big Galv projects we had Speedglass fresh air helmets and also air vacum/purifier units to suck up the smoke. It was the one or two day projects were we just used regular masks and if you were not carefull you could get sick.

              galvanize welding

I was told once that drinking milk would help to reduce the effects of galvanize fumes but don't know if there is any truth to that i've welded lots of galvanized decking and have still gotten sick milk or no milk.

WELL I'VE HEARD OF THE MILK THING BEFORE............. HOWEVER I DO NOT SEE HOW THAT WILL HELP YOUR LUNGS. IT DOES COAT YOUR STOMACH THOUGH...................... USE A BIG EXAUST FAN, RESPIRATOR, AND DO NOT BREATH THE SMOKE........... THAT IS SOME DEADLY STUFF YOUR DEALING WITH.......................
