    I was about to flame cut near a weld when an older welder told me that the heat from the cut would weaken the weld. The weld was 6011 on low carbon steel.
    Is this true?

    That's a good question for Mike Sherman...I don't think I ever gave it a thought before.

      Hey Rocky, it is a heat treatment with a torch when you cut a piece of steel. I have heard the arguement mentioned before, I would say yes if possible cut somewhere else, but I really don't think a torch will do much more harm than the welding has already done. I will however ask my brother in law who is welding engineer his opinion when I get a chance.
