  • Hobart Champ 2060 Cannot adjust temperature on welder

Hi, i recently purchased a non running Hobart Champ 2060 welder, got it running after a few hrs but now i cant adjust the temperature setting, it seems to be set to the max so when i try to weld something it almost stalls out the engine, any ideas what the problem could be? Faulty temp setting dial?

Check the control voltage on the current control potentiometer. It should be 1-10Vdc. If that reads good, check the resistance on wire 4 on the brushes to wire 6 on the rectifier. If you read a short then the board had failed. Also check the wires from the shunt to the board for continuity. When welding you will get 50mv at 200 amps output across the shunt.
