  • Gas Storage Tips

    Hi…

I have a compressed gas cylinder in my home. Can you share the safety tips to store compressed gas cylinder?

A few things...1. Keep cylinder safety caps on cylinder when not connected up to welder or torches....2. All cylinders need to be secured to wall or post or cart (chained) to prevent tipping hazard....3. Cylinders with flammable gasses (like acetylene or propane) should be stored outside so if there is a leak the gas does not accumulate and become fire/explosive hazard... I'm sure some others will have more tips, but this is all my brain can come up with at the moment...

Here is the OSHA Fact Sheet on the subject:

Biggest two issues were mentioned. Secure it so it can't tip over, and make sure they aren't going to leak flammable or oxygen-displacing gases into living quarters. I'll bet I'm not doing everything OSHA would mandate, and I'm not even going to look at what they do.
