I never thought I’d hear this but it look like the Chinese will be buying up more that just American tool manufactures. They certainly have the money and the car makers are almost penny stocks.

..would it be better to let the factories go vacant (Brown Out), or have some level of employment? if the times ahead are going to be as rugged as many fear ANY job might be real plum in those areas...although it won't be at today's UAW rates.
I hate to see anything bad befall the big three, but, MAN! they just stayed on cruise and let the imports pass them on the hill! I know we have the technology and the workers to beat the socks off the imports, but we seem to lack the corporate vision.
It would be great to see an employee buyout, like Harley-Davidson employees did from AMF in the early 80's, when Harley was looking at the same bleak future as the imports swarmed over them."Good Enough Never Is"

I feel sorry for those on salary if it happens. It would be the end of the UAW too - with probably 1/2 their current pay being offered. People in Michigan would still kill for jobs paying even $12 or $15 and hour. I know. I was laid off for 5 years from 2000-2005, and the best I could find was a temp job in a plastic injection molding H3LL hole with toxic fumes and carpal tunnel with NO benefits - for a whopping $8 an hour. Then, I was let go from that job.
I would not want to work for an Asian company. I interviewed for an Asian auto supplier once in KY, and they were up front with their plans for a new plant launch. They told me they would pay $40K salary, but would expect a minimum standard of 12hrs a day 7 days a week - with no overtime pay or comp time. I would have been better off at McDonalds. The guy that interviewed me was working 7 16hr days with no comp. He pleaded for me to help him, but I shook his hand and said "Thank you for being up front, but we can't do business!" I promptly left that interview and flew home with my tail between my legs. They were so aggressive, that they tracked me to home (at Christmas) at my parent’s home. My father was on this deathbed - literally, and they banged on the door on Christmas Eve day with a Fed-Ex pouch (with airline tickets). They interviewed me on Christmas Eve, and had no plans to offer their people any kind of holiday even!

Well last year at the auto show here in Detroit GM was taking their dealers to a secret location at the show to let them see the cherry brand of Chinese cars and trucks that GM worked out a deal to import.
If I 'm not mistaken Toyota is the only American made car(content/parts 70%plus made in the US).
Ford is bringing last years dies for the escape into the country and calling it something else to sell here as an American car parts are made else were other than sheet metal. It is called value added and then can be said that it is made in The USA.
GM is bringing the Opel back from Germany as their new small car.
Plus they just announced that they have worked out some compromise on the money for nothing auto companies.
While the exec's still are living the good life here.
Nardelia ran home depot in the ground now he wants to make sure the three headed dog has money in the bank to pay him cash!
One of ford's exec's lives in Fla, and fords pays his tickets,so he can go home for the weekend. Because he doesn't want to raise his kids here in the Metro area. This after it was published that it was costing Ford's 70 grand a month to fly him back and forth. Each week,
I sort of find that it pi$$e$ me off that my tax dollars are going to pay for those pompous greedy Ba$tard$.
And my wife works for a supplier!

"It would be great to see an employee buyout, like Harley-Davidson employees did from AMF in the early 80's, when Harley was looking at the same bleak future as the imports swarmed over them."
Fun HD notes:
That was actually a slick move, since the Harley "employees" were the same management that overproduced during the AMF years and let quality drop. Harley had previously been RESCUED from the incompetent family management BY AMF, who put lots of funding into the company even though it wasn't like the core AMF businesses. Harley had plenty of potential customers, but it had been building unreliable fossils while asking too much money for them. Importing junk Aermacchi dirt bikes was also quite retarded...
Harley had the same problems endemic to the (then nearly dead) British bike industry, including REFUSAL to product quality engines that were modern and reliable. HD finally pulled their heads out of their....saddlebags and built the Evolution (on modern JAPANESE CNC machining centers) engined machines. Interestingly, nearly everything they did was a copy of custom parts originated by the aftermarket. The Softail frame, the name Softail, aluminum cylinders, aluminum disc wheels, etc. HD finally figured out that doing what the customers want would be easier if they copied what some of their customers were doing for themselves.

The people running the big three knew this day would come. They operated recklessly taking everything they could. They thought that congress would bend over because of the strength of the UAW. Hah, I hope they fail miserably. Why should they be bailed out and not every other buisness, just because of their assumed strength. Earning $70-$80 and hour, I hope they saved some of it because they'll need it just like the rest of us. I really hope the Asian market takes over. It couldn't be any worse than what we're experiencing right now. I should tell you guys how I really feel about this! Uncrichie.

The sad part of this whole thing is that the Government will fold like the cheap house of cards they are. Right now they are just putting on a show for the press. Give it another week or two when it is off the front page and the Big 3 will get their paycheck. We can all be thankful for "change" because with all three powers that will be running the government, that is all we will have.

Yes, on the news tonight they folded. However there are restrictions and its a loan to be paid back not a bailout. That relieves the tax payer (yea right). The money was taken from an already existing fund for such purposes and not from the $800B set aside for the financial institutions bailout. In any event we will pay but the auto industry is on notice and that has never happened before. What a screwed up economy!

So uncrichie, does that mean we all get a new car for free. Or how about a price break, one that makes it worth buying one of their cars.
