need some help

I have a old lincwelder 225 dc arc weld with ac auxiliary power & 2 cylinder nona engin.Model#DC225/3-AS. Its been setting for 20 years but ran when it got parked. Going to restore it. My ? is when hooking up the batteries is it straight up or do i run them in series?

It has more than 1 battery? My ONAN uses one 12 volt battery. Can you post a picture maybe?
