  • Gas Cylinder Price

Just picked up a new Hobart 140 and am looking for C25 shielding gas. I think 80cf will be a sensible size for me and I called a few companies in the San Diego area. The best price I found was $220 for a full bottle that I own. Subsequent fills are $60. Does this sound like the going rate? I'm aware I can probably save a few bucks by buying someone else's non-leased bottle, but they appear to be a bit thin o the ground over here and a lot of the ads seem sketchy. Thanks.

Bottle price is about right, refill price seems a little high...

I found Prax Air has best price in my area.. $189 for 125cuft and $48 for refill of c25....

Strange - that was a Praxair that I quoted the price from! I thought they would have harmonized their pricing across the US? That's a big difference.

I think the LWS sets the price at whatever the traffic will bear for the hobbiests, while rig weldors and shops get a much better deal for their higher volume.

Don't really know but Prax Air was about 6 blocks from Airgas which wanted $289 for same cylinder....

          Six blocks, save $100....No brainer....

Thanks - I saw that website, but when you include shipping, it's more expensive than my local Praxair. I calculated it to the be $240 for a full cylinder of 80cf.

                Student Discount

Ask about "Student Discounts" as some places have them.
If the Counter person doesn't know, ask to talk to his manager to see what is available in the way of encouraging "Loyalty and Future Business". They are all bottom line driven to some degree.

My local AOC became Praxair a few months ago. Last AOC refill on 122' Argon was $38, filled it Friday for $28. Initial purchase price was around what you paid. Prices vary by location and market also.
