I dislike airgas and praxair

My local Praxair has a good proprietor but the Airgas store is evil. Can't figure out how they stay in business.

The sale price you were quoted is about the everyday price at my LWS. Shop around......

airgas in sacramento is the pits!

They have no prices on anything. There are a few old leftover tags on the shelves but the prices are just crossed out with a marking pen. My employer got talked into trying out airgas for CO2 a few years ago. After the owner saw the first invoice the cylinders were just used up and returned. Their price was more than double another chain. Airgas loves their multi-tiered pricing! Many of their stores in the area are not even listed in the phonebook. They are not interested in the walk in little guys.

My 125 cuft cylinder at Praxair was almost $100 less than what Airgas wanted..... Everything in local Airgas store seems overly expensive compared to other sources..... And when we went out to gas dock to get cylinder all the 125's were empty so he gave me a 175....

I use a more local supplier for me. They are based just outside of detroit, metro welding supply. I switched from airgas to another local supply shop about 8 years ago because airgas was such a pain to deal with and was having less and less gas and hard goods in stock. The local supply shop got bought out by praxair and it did not take long for the goods to dissappear and gas to get cut back. Switched to metro welding supply and have had virtually no complaints, used them for 4 or 5 years now.

Funny how different things work out in different areas. My LWS were very rude and would not even speak over the phone but air gas was nice from the phone call to walking out the door with my cylinder I guess it's all in the people running the place

I never had a problem with people really, it was the companies and their practices. It may be harder for the average consumer I suppose as they would have most of what you need. It's when you try and run a welding business when you see through the big business attitude.

Airgas

I finally got all my customer owned cylinders back from airgas. I went back to my small family owned LWS. Airgas is a ripoff and there sales people are rude. I hope Airgas goes out of business. Mike from Montebello CA.
