  • Miller Spectrum 2050 Pressure light

I got a used 2050 from a guy that swore it worked fine for him (maybe). It seems to be in good shape, ICE-55C torch, decent consumables, the air filter is dirty but everything else was fine.

The Pressure light stays on and the torch is giving lots of air but no plasma, the trigger on the torch does nothing to change the lots of air and lack of plasma. Is it normal for the torch to throw a lot of air even when the trigger isn't pulled?

I jumped the pressure switch and nothing changes. I verified the inlet air pressure and the pressure in the system by adjusting the regulator in the 2050 and the one on my compressor. The voltage and amps it's getting is good. The manual says the light should only come on if there' insufficient air pressure, which there is not and nothing changes when I jump the pressure switch anyway.

I'm just checking to see if there's any obvious fixes or diagnostic tests to narrow down my issue. The o-ring seems OK as do the rest of the consumables but I can look at changing them out, I just don't think that has anything to do with the issue.

Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

IF you are getting constant air with no trigger pulls, I would suspect something is energizing the air flow valve (solenoid) constantly, or the valve is jammed in open position.........There should only be air flow with trigger pulled.....Finding out what/why may lead to what the other issues and resolution may be....

Would try to get a owners manual (online) and see it there is trouble shooting section that may help track what the problem may be....

Unit is auto sense for input voltage and phase but I would verify the plug is wired correctly to match your source supply.... Just guessing you are 240V ac single phase....

Correct, 240v 1 phase. I’ll check that solenoid. Do you know of a way to isolate or test that solenoid? The manual doesn’t have Any info on it. Thanks for your help!

Solenoid seems to be fine, I just got off the phone with Miller tech-support and they’re pointing to the circuitboard but they Aren’t able to walk me through testing the circuitboard. A new one is $2000 and a repair is 250 so I’m going to see if there’s any obvious problems with it but I am no circuit board repair man. If anybody has any input on ideas to test on the circuit board, I’m all ears. Thanks for all the help!

I checked with them, they came recommended from Miller, as did York Electric. But York is almost half the cost. $248 for York vs $490 at innovat
