  • Plasma cutter for oil field pipe?

Anyone use a plasma cutter for cutting oilfield pipe? Any better than a torch? I have been using a metal chop saw with perfect cuts, just slow.

    Thanks,

What is the condition of the pipe? Plasma cutters are like MIG welding in that they really like clean material.

MAC702 my MIG welder loves it. Some of the pipe has a scale on the inside that causes a blow out with the cutting torch.

Some of the reviews talk about some plasma cutters better for rough material than others. I’ve just never touched one before. I am hoping the high air pressure will blow through it.

I can't speak for the pipe, but I loved my plasma cutter. I keep looking for an excuse to get another one. But I mostly did A36 plate with it, from 24-ga to 1/4".

What size pipe are You usually cutting. I have used my plasma cutter on unclean material , especially 2 3/8 oil field pipe, without issue.

Bang on it with a 4# hammer first.
