I got a Gas Saver valve, which shuts off the acetylene and oxygen when the torch is hung on a hook. It has a handy pilot light to relight the torch.
Well, I set the thing up last night with a Victor #6 rosebud -- I was especially eager to use the valve with high consumption setups like this. Well, when I hung the torch on the hook it went out with a BANG. And then when I went to ignite it off the pilot light it again went BANG and did not light -- but it did blow out the pilot light. And scared the crap out of me!
The manual that comes with the valve suggests that adjusting the valve to cut off the acetylene a little later than the oxygen (I think) can resolve this. But frankly I am a little gunshy now.
Do these Gas Savers only work for relatively low flow rates? Anyone use one with a rosebud?
Thanks!
