  • Hobart handler 210 sheet metal work

It's been some time since I've been on here, I come asking for advice for my machine.
does anyone have any suggestions for settings for welding auto body sheet metal?

Will running this machine on 110v be more kind for this type of work?

I've done some years ago but even the lowest 220v settings seemed to easily burn through. I am using c25 gas and INEFI wire .030.

    Thanks all

Basically your INEFI wire is just probably ER70S6....

You really want to turn the heat way down and butt your two pieces of metal together and do a simple tack weld about every inch or so.... Go length of "weld" and go back to beginning and do another tack adjoining previous one.... Repeat till you have a full bond the length of weld..... If you try to run a bead it will overheat and burn through and also warp your material...

You should also use .025 wire; less heat input.

Using 120V instead of 240V won't help. The higher voltage can give the machine a higher top end but does not affect its low end.

As already indicated, the solution is your wire size and your technique. Another thing to try is copper backing strips behind the weld to absorb heat without sticking to the weld. If you know you will do a lot of this work, Esab makes a wire for autobody welding that is designed to be easier to grind down for finishing: EasyGrind.

I will certainly looking into this esab wire and the .025 sizing. Thank you for the advice.
