  • Wiring Garage for Handler 187

This is my first welder and just wanted to verify that my plans for wiring make sense. First, I plan to get a bigger unit in the future so my plans might be considered overkill for this unit but I wanted to do it once.

the 187 has a three prong plug, i bought an 8 foot lenght of 6/2 with ground to run from my 50 amp outlet to breaker. I plan to run both the white and black leads from the outlet to my service panel. in the panel i will install a 50 amp breaker to connect both leads to. the ground wire will go to grounding block in service panel. It is my understanding no neutral wire is required for this application.

    thanks for any comments/suggestions

Yes, good to go, a 12 wire minimum for the 187, a 10 makes a tailor made circuit and the 6 will do it all.

Go. Weld. Be happy. I do suggest recoloring the white wire to be red or another black or any color other than white, gray, or green.
