can buy a linde 225 mig for 300 bucks is this a good machine?

I have come across a old Linde 225 mig for 300 bucks, what i need to know is there any problems with this machine i should know about before i buy it? The owner has it hooked up to power so i can try it before i buy it and it comes with some extra wire but other than that nothing else comes with it. Now i know its an old welder but can you still get parts for it? Thanks

How much extra wire? As for parts maybe but likely there isn't much in it that couldn't be fixed. A new one that does what it will do costs 5x or more as much, some gamble but hi reward if it works well.

Welder comes with a roll of .023,.030,.035,and.045 wire and a liner for .023 and .035 wire and the gas reg.

These are 30# spools of wire? If so I would jump on it if it worked at that price, makes the welder less than a hundred dollar gamble not including a regulator which could offset it some more. Almost free machine.

Well as luck would have it, as i pulled up to the guys driveway to look at the welder for sale, he was helping another guy load it into his pickup truck, that guy had just bought it! From the looks of it, it was in real nice shape and would have worked real nice in my shop, but what can i say, i guess i was just a little to late getting to the guys house to buy it, maybe next time i will leave sooner so this does not happen again.

I feel ya on this one I lost a bunch of deals researching welders but it made me prepared for the next time I saw one. You will get another chance! On the old good welders some folks want top dollar ($1000-$1500) and they don't really sell and others want $300-$500 just got to get there and see.
