  • .023 vs .024 wire

My Hobart BetaMig 200 is listed as being able to feed .024" wire. I bought the feed spool kit and then started looking around for some .024" wire. Seems that 95% of whats available out there is .023" wire. Can I substitute the .023" wire for .024" wire and have it feed reliably?

    Thanks!

Dont see why not? I doubt the OD of the wire is even gauged any closer than .001

      Sully2,

That's kinda what I was thinking but I hate to spend $35 for wire only to find out it won't work. At the same time I can't see where .001" could possibly make that much difference.

I suppose the only real way to find out would be to order some

      Thanks for the feedback.

I sure wouldn't pay 35 bucks for a roll of wire either. Here is 2 rolls for like 41 bucks...Bob

aametalmaster, funny you should provide a link to that Auction. I had it in my eBay watch list already waiting to see what the results were on my question about wire size .

            Hankj, thanks for the info.

The consensus seems to be to go for it.

            Thanks!

                Hey guys,
I agree with Bob(aametalmaster) that Jeff Noland has the best prices on .023 wire. For those of you who also use a lot of .035, here's the best bargain I found in quite a while. When I first read it, I thought there was a typo or the listing was phony and I would file a complaint with E-Bay. So, I ordered (1) roll at $6 + $4s/h = $10. It came in 2 days and was indeed 10lbs ER70S-6(.035) labeled Campbell-Hausfeld. I put it in my Challenger 172 & ran 10 beads about 12" long. Excellent wire with no issues. I ordered another (6) rolls to have some stock since the price of everything is getting insane anymore. If any of you want a bargain, here's the listing:
