  • Porter Cable Brad Nails problem

I have a Bostich Brad gun that has beed perfect for the past five years, and I run 18 g. 2" and 1 1/4" brad nails. I've run probably 20 boxes of brads, about 1/2 of that the 2". Well last week I picked up a new pack of each of the two sizes...went to laod the 2" today, and no fit! Took the nails and the gun to Home Depot, he couldn't load them either. we tried anew gun, no go. Tried a new package of brads, no go. tried a 5,000 brad package...and those 2"'ers worked! The (older) salesman said I'd be surprised how much stuff comes back with similar problems..he pointed out the brads that didn't fit were made in China (so much for American brands, eh?).

    Just FYI.

Bostich brad gun, staple gun, or nail gun will not work with most Porter Cable brads, staple or nails. The only exception I know about is roofing nails.

Its run many boxes of them up to now, and the new big box fits fine. HD doesn't carry Bostich brads in that size, so next time, I'll try Lowes. Good point, though, Roger, try to keep brand to brand.

Lot of company make a small difference in their nail so you must use their brand. You see this a lot with pins used in locks.

I take it back... the new big box has brads of both thickness in it (pretty easy to see and feel), but the thinner ones, which fit into my gun just fine, don't feed! Oh, well, I'll find some Bostich and go with the...of interest, the Porter Cable box specifically lists my gun as on they will work in. The 1 1/4's seem to run fine, I fired a few into a scrap.
Not a big deal, but its a change from something that worked, and I suspect it was done to save 1/10 of a cent per box or something like that. 'kinda drops Porter Cable down on my list, which is a pretty short list, so they'll have to share a bunk with Harbor Freight!

Believe it or not, I have bought brad and finish nails on eBay cheaper than local prices, even factoring in the freight cost.

I have Bostich angled finish nailer which uses dif nails than Porter Cable and Bostich narrow crown stapler different than Bostich. Some Porter Cable Stuff is OK.

While on the subject. I have a framing nailer that recently started to shoot 2 nails on one pull of the trigger. Does the same thing if I bump fire it. Anyone wanna guess what the problem might be? Thanks, Uncrichie.
