Hi all. I just went ENCO to order some blades. 2 blades were $35.16 and the S/H was $14.60. Blade prices were OK but any suggestions were I might find cheaper S/H. Uncrichie.

Check ebay....I found two Morse bimetal blades for the 4x6 saws for $30 shipped.

I've got a Grainger in town, so I just stopped in on Friday and picked up a bi-metal blade for my new bandsaw. IIRC, it was $15.30.

That all depends on what kind you buy I guess. I usually buy Starrett blades Flexback 14-tpi at MSC and they run $13.**. I don't pay shipping as I pick up at will-call.

I still haven't mastered soldering the SOB's though so I usually buy 2 at a time.

Thanks for the info, this is what I just ordered. I do have a Grainger nearby but I think you have to have an account to purchase there, I don't have one. This was the next best. Funny how I just made it by $.15. Uncrichie.

Well, I have to admit, I thought about it when I bought the bandsaw. But I decided not to take the chance. It looks like you done good.

You do have to have an account to buy from Grainger. I don't know if they will do cash sales for non-account holders or not. It seems like they told me a few years ago, when I didn't have an account there, that I could still come in and do a cash sale. Sometimes, there are items that are less expensive there than other places, like the #3 phillips bit I need to take the doors off my '47. At least I hope it's #3. It could be #4, but IIRC, the screws are 1/4", which should be #3. Anyway, you can always call and ask if they'll do cash sales.

Not to hijack the thread here, but will a good bimetal blade make my saw cut any more square? The bow travels square, and the current blade is TIGHT, but it still seems to flex toward the clamp when making deeper cuts. In other words, I line up the blade on the cut mark, and by the time it gets to the bottom of the piece, it has travelled "into" the frame of the saw about 1/16" over a 2" cut. When the cut is finished, the blade pops out and away from the cut end that is clamped in the saw. Just seems like the blade is flexing once the pressure of the bow is placed on it, so that it cuts at a backward angle and I'm wondering if a bi-metal blade would be stiffer and not allow that flex to happen so much.

TFG can you tell if the teeth are wearing evenly? If the teeth are more dull on one side that can happen. If you lay a square on the vise bed and align it to the blade does it look like 90 degrees? The other thing you can do is put a shim maybe a 1/16" or so under the piece your cutting but only at the far end away from the blade side of the vise base. That would be a temporary fix until you find out whats up. By the way your not hi-jacking the thread. We're all learning here. Uncrichie.

The first answer is "YES," because you're wasting your time trying to get these saws to cut square if you don't already have a good quality, bimetal blade on them.

That being said, even a good blade won't compensate for the saw being adjusted incorrectly, so follow uncrichies' advice above too.

Adjusting the blade guides is a PIA- helps if you have someone to hold the blade while you make the adjustments.
