Carb linkage

I have a Champion Elite 10,000 welder/generator. Replaced the carburetor and now the part where the linkage attaches to the carb hits the manifold and won't allow the engine speed to change. Do I have the wrong Carb? It seems identical to the old one. Can I make a plate to raise it 1/4"? I am stumped.
