Galvanized Steel

I am looking to weld a swing arm stand for my motorcycle and some of the steel tubing I was looking to possible use is galvanized.

I was told this is not good since the fumes are toxic.

Is this true?

I was looking at 1 and 1\4 conduit that gave me an 1\8 wall, which should be plenty strong enough to support the bike.

Yes - the fumes can kill you in high enough concentration.

Gring off until shiny and then weld in a well ventillated area. Keep your head out of the smoke.

the fumes are very toxic I would use stainless then you can tig weld it

Make sure that when you grind, you see sparks...If not, you are not removiong the galvanizing!!

You can weld it, just don't breathe the smoke in.
