As a certified tech for both Hobart (Miller) and Lincoln, they are both excellent machines. I have dealt with Miller on warranty issues for several years and they do almost anything to keep customers happy. I was at the Lincoln factory recently and was very impressed with their pride in their machines and company loyalty.
I would compare warranty terms (Miller considers contactors in smaller Migs a consumable) and prices and availability of consumables.
    Good luck!

Neither, I'd go with a HH 187. I see Tractor Supply is selling the 187 for $600 with free shipping.
MigMaster 250- Smooth arc with a good touch of softness to it. Good weld puddle wetout. Light spatter producer.
Ironman 230 - Soft arc with a touch of agressiveness to it. Very good weld puddle wet out. Light spatter producer.

Another vote for the HH187...and use the 10% off coupon (sign up on line, but mine came in the mail).

I haven't ran one of the retail Lincoln's.

Along with a HH 187, I do own a Lincoln PM 180C. The 180C is definitely a nice unit. Honestly though between the two, I do slightly favor the 187. Reasons for this being the Hobart offers more top end power for solid wire applications , and wets the weld puddle out a little better then the Lincoln.

Between the retail Lincoln and the HH 187, the added output ranges the Hobart offers could be a definite advantage.

I do like the Lincoln 100L gun a little better then the H-10 gun on the Hobart.

The extra output ranges and more powerful top end would have me going with the 187 for $600 over the $500 retail Lincoln.
