    Stainless steel rebar is stronger than steel rebar? Big construction companies use this type of rebars for in pillar and wall?

    Jenny, you are correct. SS rebar is stronger than Grade 60 carbon steel rebar and codes recognize that fact. The main use is for its improved corrosion resistance.

Because of the high yield and tensile strengths of 2304 & 2205 duplex grades of stainless steel rebar, their elongation may test at less than 20% but greater than that of the 12% elongation of A706 carbon rebar.

          The exceptional ductility of stainless steel rebar makes it an excellent choice for seismic applications."

          Back when I worked construction, there were two grades of carbon steel rebar generally used, Grade 40 and Grade 60; the numbers correspond to their tensile strength with G60 obviously being stronger. The Grade 60 was almost always special order, these days it is easier to find in stock at the yards. It is the highest rated that I have found near me.

          The citation above states that stainless rebar is typically Grade 75 (first paragraph). So the specification recognizes the increased rating for tensile strength.

          The third paragraph points out the advantage of using it in seismic zones.

          Here on the U.S. East Coast we (normally!) don't get earthquakes so where I live is not considered a seismic zone. The rebar I see going into bridges is a vinyl or plastic-coated type that resists corrosion better but to my knowledge is still carbon steel. The road crews go crazy with salt whenever snow threatens and the green plastic coating protects the steel. Stainless steel does not need a secondary coating for corrosion protection.

            I have never seen a piece of stainless rebar. I have humped a little green and used up the last of a roll of epoxy coated wire a while back. I wouldn't mind another roll or 2 of it. Nice outdoors.
