    I guess its true that you should never weld up Stainless with Steel Fill rod.

    The only reason I can think of is, that if you ever need to separate them again, you can use a cutting torch to cut through the steel, which will wash the stainless as well. That was a trick I learned in the Army...if all you had was a cutting torch to cut stainless...you first run a steel bead and then you can cut through both the steel and the stainless and the stainless will wash away with it.

    Do any of you know if Stainless should be welded with Carbon steel fill rod? I've always been taught to only weld Stainless to Carbon Steel. Any takers?
