  • Shelf help?

    Need some advise/ideas,

I wish to build some (4)"huge storage shelves" 4ft X 10 ft., 10 ft high

In stock I have plenty of 1.5"X 1/4" angle and come 3" angle X 1/4".

Thinking of using 4X8 3/4" MDF for shelf itself. Would mesh be better/cheaper?

Each shelf must support 300-400 per shelf. (auto parts)

    Any suggestions.

Using Miller Vintage, I really love that old machine.

    Thanks
    God Bless
    John

with 1/4" angle as the frame you'll be able to store an elephant on it!

Is the 1.5" 1/4 angle strong enough for a 10' length if I support it with a vertical horizontal 1.5 X 1/4" at the 5 foot mark. Is this confusing?

yes, if you want it a little stronger put 2 horizontals instead of 1 in the middle.

            Now I am confused!

Do u mean 2 vertical post?

Maybe I did not say this is a "free standing shelf assembly, 10 ft high, 4 shelves, 4 vertical legs.

for a 10' span you could make the shelf frame like a 8K1, 8" bar joist. It should be very strong then.
