  • Bending 1/16" aluminum sheet??

    Hi all,
I want to bend some 1/16" (16 gauge) aluminum sheet. They'd be approximately 14"-16" wide. I see the brakes at HF and Northern Tool (also the 3 way machines) state that they can bend and cut up to 20 gauge steel. I'd like to do it in my garage, and I was thinking....
Those limits are for steel. Do you think that because aluminum is slightly softer, they could handle the 16 gauge? Has anyone tried this before? I can, but would rather not, bring it to someone local to do it.

Here is a press brake that has ratings for both, and they just happen to be 20-gauge steel and 16-gauge aluminum: https://www.baileigh.com/index.php/s...RoCRo0QAvD_BwE

    So that's encouraging.

Yes, that IS encouraging. I guess the worst that can happen is I get one, and if it doesn't do it, just return it (yes, a PITA but worth the trouble)
