  • First time on aluminum.

Hey guy's i just thought i would comment on my first time welding aluminum with a mig. I have a HH210 MVP and spoolmate 100. I practiced on a piece not quite 1/8" thick. No photos but i was very impressed with how easy it was to set up and get started. It took me several tries to get it looking good but i think the set up works very well. I did burn back in the tip and stick the wire. Still haven't got it cleaned out so i guess i need a tip cleaner. One thing i did realize is i was able to weld better on 110v than 220v because i couldn't find the sweet spot on 220v. It is very thin to start on but other than the distortion on the backside of the plate i was pleased. Lots of tips on here so ill keep on reading just thought i would give a shout........Fireman Bill

Extended nozzle available for some MIG guns and spool guns helps prevent burning back to tip.

        Save some money.

Well i have finally used my hh210 mvp w/the spool gun for something productive. My dad is fixing his 2000 Buick park avenue after hitting a dear. He was going to order the aluminum bracket that holds the headlight in. It was torn and broken in two places. We bent it back exactly like the other bracket and cleaned the areas that needed welded. Each place was about two inches long. I ran a bead from the middle out to each end. I am pretty impressed with the results so far. It saved $95 and was enjoyable doing. It's always nice not having to pay the big corps any more money than you have to............Fireman Bill

          Pictures would be nice!

I just bought a Hobart 190 with a Spool-Gun, and finally tried welding aluminum last Saturday.

              Thanks for the welcome!

              Yes, I have some pictures.

I turned the welder down on 1 as low as it would go, and could weld better than turning the welder up on a higher setting!. . I have a lot to learn, and hopefully I can find someone with a Hobart 190 that has welded aluminum.

              I'll start a new thread.

First time welding of aluminum should be very careful. As the aluminum gets heat earlier than other metal, so it can be dangerous for welding. Heat sink is preferred to absorb the heat of aluminum.
